In history, we are learning about the Maya people. Read on to find out some of the facts that we have discovered and some of the questions we still have.
One of the most interesting facts I have found out was that the Maya people threw young children down a 20ft well to hear what the gods said. Some survived and at noon they brought them back up if survived and asked them what did the gods say. This is a very unusual fact and would make people want to know more about the topic.
Some of the most interesting facts about the Maya are that the Maya’s gods made animals but they didn’t speak to them. Also, humans were made out of maize dough. The Maya also described the universe as square and flat. The Maya had an (underworld ), called Xibala. It was a place of fear and death. They had over 150 gods. They said religious rituals to make the gods happy and they had blood letting and human sacrifice. Their pyramids were built between 2500 BC and 600 BC .
The Maya civivlisation lived from 2000BC to 900AD. The cities were abandoned at 900AD. No-body knows why.
The children and babies had noses lips ears pierced to hang ornaments on. This is a bit like what we do today because we pierce our ears, nose, lips and tongue.

It is very interesting that the Maya lived in 4 different countries Guatemala,Belize,Honduras ,El Salvador and the yucatan was less than 200m wide. I was so surprised about the ball game. The goal that you had to put the ball through was 8 m high. They also invented a calendar and they knew that there was 365 days in a year..

I learnt that one of the most interesting facts is that in the morning a girl would be thrown down a 20metre well because they believed that god would speak to girls. At noon they would bring the girl up from the well and say, “what did god say?” Another thing was that the biggest court on the mayan ball game was 140metres by 35metres.
I am enjoying this topic as it is very enjoyable and our favourite fact is the Maya had a way to communicate in symbols which made writing from Luke.R & Daniel.K
